| Deposits - |
| Deposits must be paid on the day of the photoshoot, and are typically half the price of the commission (including sales tax). All prices are determined by the length of time a painting will take me to create. The higher the detail, for example, the more expensive the commission will be. My services usually range from $30 - $35/hr. |

| * I consider a medium background as including 3 or 4 objects. |
|
| Pricing is less for a one/two color background (ex.abstract brushstrokes). |
|
Pricing is greater for a very complicated background scene.

| ** I can create a full body, high detailed background painting in this size, but it's not cost effective. Because small details are very time consuming,, the price for a piece like this would be the same as a 16"x20". |
I will also work smaller or larger - the sizes listed above are the most common I'm asked to work on. The prices above do not include frames. Acrylics are made on stretched canvas, which can easily be hung without a frame. I do framing for watercolors in house at an additional cost.

Can you make me a portrait in something other than watercolor or acrylic?
I mainly paint in watercolor and acrylic, but will happily make drawings in charcoal, chalk pastel,or oil for you.
Do you just paint animals?
Certainly not; I have a strong background in figure painting & landscapes. Animals just happen to be my current focus. I plan to add my surreal, abstract, and figurework here as soon as I can.
Can you work from my own photos? :
Though working from life would be best, I will accept photos for commissioned works. Ideally, it would be best that you send several photos of the subject, each of different views and detail shots. (ex. eye, ear, feet, fur texture, natural setting, and any other distinctive features that make the subject unique.) Please take photos at eye level for best results. Fire off an email to me for more tips - I'm always happy to help! :)
I'd like you to come by to take photos of my pet - what's the process?:
I personally enjoy visiting your pet as opposed to just working from photos; I feel I get a better sense of a subject's personality when I meet them in person. Any influence or additional shred of information I have adds to the realism of the portrait.
1. Once a time is slotted for me to come by, I'll start the session by asking you about your pet - their personality, favorite places, toys, anything that I think will aid me for the portrait. Copyright and reproduction rights will also be discussed. The bulk of the session I will be taking photos of your pet in several scenes, take close-up shots of individual markings, unique physical traits, etc. I usually make a couple of small sketches as well. I try to gather as much information as I can.
Please note: any photos that I take become my property; I may make several paintings of your pet in addition to your painting from photos taken during my photo shoot. If you request a cd with the photos I've taken of your pet, I retain all reproduction rights of those photos.
(ex. You may not loan those photos out to another artist to make a painting based on them, but you can loan them out for others to merely reference from).
If you reside in the California Bay Area within 1 hr. driving distance of my studio, I do not charge for travelling fees. Otherwise, I will charge for gas, flight tickets, etc. into the final bill. I do not charge for the actual photoshoot, which may take up to 3 hours or more.
2. After processing the photos, I will make several digital compositions that I feel fit the portrait you're looking for. I will post these online for you to pick from. If I miss my mark the first time, I'll make several more compositions. Once you're happy with one, it's time to make the portrait!
3. Depending upon the media of the painting, the size, and level of detail, paintings can take anywhere from a week to a month to complete. The entire process (from photoshoot to finished painting) may take anywhere from 2 weeks, to 3 months, depending upon my schedule and the time at which you need the piece.
Copying:
I am against recreating another artist's work under any circumstances unless you have a major modification in mind (ex. color or addition of collage) or if you wish to have a painting in "the style of" a particular artist. I'm pretty flexible, I just don't want to encroach on other's copyrights.
